Size and Position

Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun, just after the Earth. It is smaller than the Earth, with a diameter of about 6780 kilometers, a little more than half of the Earth.

Satellites

Mars has two natural satellites, Phobos and Deimos, which are relatively small and irregular.

Atmosphere

The atmosphere of Mars is composed mainly of carbon dioxide (95%), with small amounts of nitrogen, argon and traces of oxygen and water.

The atmospheric pressure at the surface is about 1% of that on Earth.

Relief

Mars has a rugged surface, with many craters, mountains, valleys and plains.

The largest volcano in the solar system, Mount Olympus, is located on Mars.

Temperature

The average temperature of Mars is about -60°C, with large variations, which makes it much colder than Earth.

Life Potential

Mars has been identified as a potentially habitable planet and is currently being studied by space missions to determine if it has ever harbored life or if it could do so in the future.
